The Department offers an extensive language program, with courses that range from beginning German, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Finnish to advanced conversation and composition, German media, and Business German. We also offer a special 6-week course in Modern Icelandic every year during May Term.
Known for exemplary teaching, our language program is ranked as one of the best in the country. GSD language courses are web-enhanced and use a wide variety of instructional technologies. Interactive computer materials, computerized grammar exercises, internet assignments, videos, and audio are an integral part of the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to work with these materials during class time or independently in computer labs. Some resources can also be accessed from off campus.
Starting the second week of each fall and spring term, German instructors are available in 128 Folwell to help students with questions about specific class assignments. For more information, see our Walk-in Tutorial Hours page.
