Special 2-Credit Options

Each of our less-commonly taught language courses (Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish) is offered with both a 1xxx- and a 4xxx-level registration option. The 4xxx section allows qualified students to take the course for reduced credits (2 credits instead of 5). Coursework and student requirements are the same for both registration options, and the sections meet together.

To enroll in a 4xxx section, you must:

Graduate students may register for a 4xxx-level section without special permission. Others who believe they are eligible for this option should contact the Department office, 612-625-2080, for a permission number.

Current graduate students at the U of M may also take beginning and intermeidate German as a 2-credit 4xxx-level registration They cannot, however, receive graduate credit for this option.
