The PSEO allows juniors and seniors in Minnesota to register concurrently for high school and post-secondary coursework; the State Department of Education pays for the post-secondary tuition and books. The Advanced High School Student Services (AHS) Office in the College of Continuing Education (CCE) administers the program for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
The Department conducts a program that allows high school students to take our German courses at their own schools and to complete the CLA language requirement at the end of their senior year. Currently, the German program of College in the Schools enrolls about 300 students from 21 high schools: Buffalo, Cambridge-Isanti, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Eden Valley-Watkins, Faribault, Forest Lake, Fridley, Hastings, Hopkins, Mounds View, New Life Academy, Owatonna, Red Wing, Richfield, Rosemount, South, Spring Lake Park, Tartan, Watertown-Mayer, and White Bear Lake. For information, contact College in the Schools (612-625-1855 or cis@cce.umn.edu).
Two scholarships are available specifically to students who want to major in German (one of which is awarded to a CiS student). In addition, the University has various scholarships which aren't tied to a particular major. For more information, see our Undergraduate Scholarships & Awards page.
The German American Chamber of Commerce Minnesota Scholarship is a $1000 scholarship awarded annually to Minnesota high school students who show academic achievement in German and participate successfully in a German essay-writing contest. Ask your teacher for information, or write to info@gaccom-mn.org.
