University Catalog: Twin Cities Courses

The University Catalog lists all the courses we offer, though they are not all offered every term. The courses are searchable by designator. Our course designators are: DAN (Danish), DTCH (Dutch), FIN (Finnish), GER (German), GSD (German, Scandinavian & Dutch), ICEL (Icelandic), NOR (Norwegian), SCAN (Scandinavian), and SWED (Swedish).

Registration System

Use the U of MN Registration System to register for your courses. You can also view a registration checklist, learn how to change your registration, and learn about holds.

If you are not seeking a degree at the University of Minnesota and have never taken courses here before should contact the College of Continuing Education (612-625-3333). Senior citizens should contact the Senior Citizen Education Program for no cost (if auditing) or low-cost (if taking a course for credit) courses. There are also special options for high school students.

How to Enroll in Closed GSD Courses

Beginning & Intermediate German & German 3011-12

If a section that you want fills, add your name to the waitlist. If places open up in that section, we will send out permission numbers to students on the list. People who have not received a permission number by the start of the term should go to the first day of class for that section. The instructor will have the waitlist and will add to it any other people who show up then. As spaces become available during that first week, the instructor will give permission numbers to students still on the waiting list.

Please note that instructors cannot give out permission numbers before the first day of class.

All other Dtch, Fin, Ger, Nor, Scan, & Swed Courses

When a class you want becomes full, add your name to the waitlist, if there is one. If there is no wait list for that course, contact the instructor about the possibility of getting a permission number. Instructors do not have the permission numbers before the first day of class and must let the department office know that permission numbers can be given out.

The department office must hear directly from the instructor: by phone, by e-mail, in person, or by handwritten note. The department office does not give out permission numbers otherwise.
